Tourist District of Selinunte, Sicily - Italy
The Distretto Turistico "Selinunte, il Belìce a Sciacca Terme" was created in 2010 to promote the region of Selinunte in Sicily, and is an Associate Member of EHTTA. The partnership comprises eighteen municipaliies, 40 private partners, including hotels, B&Bs, farmhouses, restauarants and associations.
The District's tourist development project, approved by the Department of Tourism of the Sicilian Region, includes a tourist communication campaign which involves the coast from Selinunte to Siculiana and covers the entire area of the Belìce river. This is an unexploited area, with coastal routes, where nature has been preserved, with historic towns and monuments to be discovered, archaeological areas and rural areas which express the excellence of the Mediterranean heritage. The landscape still has many traces of Phoenician, Greek, Arabian-Norman and Spanish civilizations, which have left obvious and still intact, but in many cases, rather unknown signs and evidence of their presence.
The municipalities that are part of the district are: Castelvetrano, Menfi, Ribera, Sciacca, Cattolica Eraclea, Monte Allegro, Siculiana, Santa Ninfa, Vita, Poggioreale, Salaparuta, Montevago, Partanna, Santa Margherita Belice, Sambuca, Caltabellotta, Calamonaci and Giuliana. Thermal tourism, is being developed in the municipalities of Sciacca Terme and Montevago, which are also among the protagonists both of the network of the Sicilian Thermal spa towns and the Productive District about the Thermal in Sicily.
For the purposes of an internationalization of the District, the strategy involves the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe. The district, in fact, is part of 5 routes, certified by the programme Cultural Routes , the Phoenicians’ Route and Iter Vitis (which also have primary seat in the territory), EHTTA – Thermal Towns Route, ViaCeram and the Route of Charles V.
