EHTTA President at the European Spas Conference

EHTTA President and delegates join European Spa Meetings in Vichy

4th November 2021

EHTTA’s President, Mr José Manuel Baltar Blanco joined leaders of several important European thermal organisations on stage at the opening of the European Spa Meetings in Vichy, France.

The congress, which is expecting over 400 delegates is being held at the Salon Napoléon III in the beautiful Art Nouveau Palais des Congrès et Opera, the former Casino  in the heart of the spa district in Vichy.  Vichy, a founding member of EHTTA has also recently joined 10 other spa towns in being listed as a World Heritage Site, the Great Spas Towns of Europe.

Mr Baltar said:

“We are lucky to not only be the managers of health tourism destinations (actually something the EHTTA member towns and regions have been for centuries), we have the unbeatable assets of heritage, culture, history, and some great food and drink, all of which add to the appeal of cultural tourism in our towns”

He also looked back to the last major congress in Vichy, when EHTTA received its certification as a Cultural Route of the Council of Europe,

a truly  outstanding asset, representing great value for EHTTA and its members and it was one of the Association’s first major achievements, celebrated here in 2010.”

Speaking about the organisation of the European Spa Meetings in Vichy, Mr Baltar added:

I am sure that we all understand the opportunities this congress gives us, such as meeting in person with colleagues from other associations, looking at the challenges we all face, especially after the pandemic, and developing common ideas and future strategies for spa towns and thermalism in general in Europe.

Mr Baltar will also take part in Roundtable discussion on Thermal tourism and heritage during the congress, before chairing the General Assembly of the Association on Friday 5th November.
