Historical Literature in Spa Towns

Spa towns ocuppy a privileged position in European literature, having inspired stories - half true, half fiction - which picture not only the atmosphere of past times, but also the lives and acts of its prestigious visitors, shedding light on the history of the continent.

As places of dialogue and exchange spa towns have contributed to write the history of Europe, and these places illustrates themselves episodes of our past that are key to what we are today as a collective, Historical fiction allow us today today to travel to these ideal cities, dreaming of them and rediscovering their secrets.

In this Café of Europe, this journey across time and space was explored, with writers and researchers discussing on how to literature renarrates reality and how spa towns expand themselves beyond its borders by means of artistic creation.Besides talks and discussions, the Café also made time for some historical re-enactment pèrformances which gave a taste of the long rich history of Acqui Terme, a virant spa centre since Roman times.


This Café of Europe took place along with the 47th Edition of the Premio Acqui Storia – Acqui’s History Prize Award. This prestigious literay prize was founded in 1968 to the memory of the victims of the Acqui Military Division who died on the Ionian Islands of Cephalonia and Corfu in September 1943 fighting against the Nazis.

Guillaume Reynard

Reporter -Dessinateur - Carnettiste

Born in Poitiers in 1972, Guillaume Reynard is illustrator.

He works with several publishers (Autrement, Actes-Sud Junior, Flammarion, Intervalles...) and publishes in various titles of the written press (Le Monde, Libération, Grands Reportages, Senso, Ulysse, XXI...). His illustrations are also used to set design of museums (Grande Galerie de l’Évolution, Cité des sciences de la Villette à Paris, Musée des Confluences à Lyon...), and by institutions or communication agencies (Cities of Argenteuil, of Pantin, Le Printemps, Arte, Angie ...).

Without enroll in a strict or anecdotal representation of reality, his work made with figurative drawings, explores the link between the beings to places, beings to things.

Video & Photo Artist

Loiez Déniel lives and works in Auvergne (and sometimes Istanbul). Video maker photographer artist, independent researcher in multimedia integration solutions and operational poetry, he is also president of the International Video Art Festival VIDEOFORMES.
