Mondorf-les Bains, a charming village of about 5.300 inhabitants, is the only thermal spot in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It is the ideal destination to combine health care and leisure.

Every year Mondorf-les-Bains attracts more than one million visitors, mainly through the thermal center and the casino. The health resort “Mondorf Domaine thermal”, which serves as well for medical treatments as for wellness, is perfectly integrated into a magnificent park of 42 hectares, designed in the 19th century by Edouard André (a well-known French architect and landscaper). It is a pleasure to stroll on the promenades between old trees, plants, flowers and sculptures, to make a tour with the rowing boots or simply to have a rest on one of the numerous benches. Simply an ideal place for relaxing and recharging.

Additionally Mondorf-les-Bains offers a large selection of recreational activities and attractions for residents and tourists: - a casino with bars, restaurants, shows and concerts year-round, - a thermal center with a huge fitness- and wellnesscenter, - sports infrastructures offering many opportunities: sports center, soccer fields, tennis courts, petanque courts …and soon to come a velodrome with sports hall and covered swimming pool, - a cinema, - a museum of aviation history, - a precious property heritage, - over 300 events per year, - 109 ha green area (thereof 42 ha park with a huge art collection) - three 18 hole golf courses within 20 minutes drive - numerous hiking and cycling opportunities Not only has Mondorf-les-Bains a lot to offer, but also its surroundings are worth visiting. The village developed through the thermal activity.

In 1841 Karl-Gotthelf Kind began drilling, hoping to find salt. Solicitor Ledure from Mondorf observed that cows drank with preference from a special water rose; he noticed that this water tasted salty.

In 1846, in a depth of 736m (world record at that time), the drill bit broke and no salt was found. Nevertheless in a depth of 460m a spring with mineral water with benefacting effects was found. The thermalism in Mondorf was born. Two more sources were drilled in 1913 (Source Marie-Adelaïde) and in 1979 (source Michel Lucius). Michel Lucius is nowadays the only remaining active source

The major therapeutic effects of moving in thermal water heated at 36°C are: - specific strengthening of the muscles whilst relaxing, - improvement of the mobility of the joints and range of motion, - reduction of muscle spasms and contractions, - considerable soothing of pains and inflations, - stimulation of blood circulation In terms of rheumatology and phlebology the large quantity of mineral salts brings about a soothing state that facilitates movements and relaxes the muscles. For digestive and metabolic disorders, the absorption of thermal water with its high calcium and magnesium content stimulates intestinal activity and activates the secretions of the digestive system. The respiratory system benefits essentially from the decongesting and anti-inflammatory effects of sulphur, the main component of sulphate.
